Power Outage Updates

Power Outage Updates | City of Portage

Power Outage Updates | City of Portage

With continuing power outages across the area, the City of Portage reminds you to check on your neighbors and lend a hand where you can.  In true medical, police, or fire emergencies, dial 9-1-1.  If you need non-emergency assistance or information, dial 2-1-1.  Please do not call 9-1-1 with non-emergency needs.  During this time, city staff from Public Safety (police & fire) and Public Works are frequently traveling through Portage neighborhoods; flag them down if you need assistance.

  • The Portage Department of Public Works is working to clear downed trees on public streets, many of which are tangled with live utility wires.  For your safety, stay away from downed wires and trees.
  • If your home is without power, and you choose to use an alternative heating source, make sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions.  If the device is to be used in a well-ventilated area, know that your home or an enclosed garage are NOT well-ventilated areas.  DO NOT attempt to heat your home with your oven or stove.  Visit https://www.ready.gov/power-outages to learn more about power outages and home heating.
  • A Red Cross 24-hour shelter is open at the -Douglass Community Association at 1000 West Paterson Street in Kalamazoo.  To request a free ride to the shelter, call Metro Connect at (269) 350-2970.
  • Visit consumersenergy.com/outagemap or call Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050 for power restoration information or to report a downed wire.
Remember, stay away from downed power lines and check on your neighbors.   Forward together!
